Despina Gavresi
I am a Post-Doctoral Fellow at the University of Luxembourg, Department of Economics and Management, and a Research Associate at the University of Macedonia in Thessaloniki, Greece. Previously, I was a Visiting Research Fellow at the Luxembourg Income Study Cross-National Data Center.
I successfully defended my Ph.D. in Economics with a distinction and I hold a M.Sc. in Economic Analysis and Policy and a B.Sc. in Economics from the Department of Economics at the University of Ioannina in Greece with a specialization in Applied Economics and Quantitative Methods.
My research interests are quite broad and expand in a number of fields. My interests involve Applied Macroeconomics and Microeconomics, Economics of European Integration, Political Economy, Cultural Economics and Demographics. Currently, I have three published papers at the Journal of Comparative Economics, Journal of Economic Behavior & Organization and Kyklos and a chapter at the Handbook of Labor, Human Resources and Population.
I have presented in several conferences and summer schools so far. To mention a few, the Annual Research Conference on European Integration, Institutions and Development, Workshop on Household Finance and Consumption-Banque Central de Luxembourg, Gender and Economics Workshop, ASREC Europe Conference and Graduate Student Workshop, Workshop on Aging, Culture and Comparative Development, CESifo Workshop on Political Economy, IAAEU Workshop on Labour Economics, Max Planck Summer School on the Political Economy of Conflict and Redistribution (PolEcCon) among other and I also have presented by invitation at the Research Seminar Network of DG ECFIN organized by the European Commission, the XIX World Economic History Congress, the Institutional and Organizational Academy (IOEA) Spring School in Corsica and at the Research Seminar Series of the European University Institute in Florence.
Moreover, I am a member at the DG ECFIN-JRC-ARC Network European Commission, the Institutional and Organizational Economics Academy (IOEA) Network organized by the Paris-Dauphine University and the Danish Society for Economic and Social History (DSESH).
Additionally, I have participated in outreach activities as a mentee in mentoring and training programs organized by the University of Luxembourg and I also have contributed to the organization of the Workshop on Interventions to Address the Economic and Social Effects of the COVID-19 Pandemic, the ASREC Thessaloniki 2024 organized at the University of Macedonia and the organization of a workshop on understanding the role of exposure to economic and demographic crises in shaping EU perceptions and the rise of voting for extremist parties.
My research agenda collectively contributes to creating more resilient, inclusive, and well-informed societies by exploring the significant societal and scientific contributions of understanding the multifaceted impacts of socio-economic crises, historical and cultural factors offering critical insights into fostering inclusive societies, enhancing European integration and social cohesion, and tailoring effective policies to inform academic community and the policy-makers, offering them a deeper scientific understanding of the complex societal dynamics.
